Dear Miss Amazing participants,

I am so excited to welcome you all to the Iowa Miss Amazing family! My name is Maddie Lorenzen, and I am the State Director. I have been involved with Miss Amazing, Inc. for over 6 years now, and I had the incredible opportunity to start the Iowa state program in 2013! Three years and four pageants later, the Iowa state program has had over 100 girls and women from all over the state participate, and we hope for the numbers to grow and grow!

My involvement with Miss Amazing stems from the impact my oldest brother, Jordan, has had on my life. Jordan has a profound intellectual disability, but to my family and those close to us, he is simply our “J-Dawg”.  There's a saying that having someone with a disability in your family doesn't just 'enhance' your life, but rather 'enlightens' your life. I like to believe that this saying holds true, for having Jordan in my life has really allowed me to see things through a different lens. I try to be very appreciative of the opportunities I have been able to pursue in life, and I want to be able to use these opportunities to give back. That is one of the many reasons I am so passionate about the Miss Amazing Organization!

Miss Amazing goes beyond the pageant itself. It's an opportunity to for girls and women with disabilities to share their strengths and abilities while making new friendships in a supportive and fun environment! The mission is to offer women from all different walks of life with the opportunity to learn from one another, step out of their comfort zone, and let their individuality shine through. Through my experience, I have seen both participants and volunteers grow, develop lifelong friendships, and see themselves in a whole new, positive light... all just within the day! These experiences and memories, however, are ones that will stay with individuals for a lifetime.

With each passing year, I have struggled and achieved as the state director, and I have learned more than I ever thought possible. With every mishap and successful venture while planning, I come one step closer to the final visionproviding the participants, volunteers, and families with a day they will never forget, full of excitement, encouragement, and memories. The day is all about the participants and a celebration of their abilities! In 2017, I hope that you, too, can experience the AMAZING impact of this organization!

Sincerely,

Maddie Lorenzen
